je suisse (or not)
In «je suisse (or not)», Camilla Parini approaches her family history and questions which stories are preserved in families. While shared stories and documented scenes in photo albums usually go hand in hand, in "«je suisse (or not)», memory and depiction break apart. Which stories are preserved here? What exactly was it like back then? And what is simply based on grandmother's affinity for lying?
In this one-to-one performance, Parini takes us back to her childhood in Ticino, where we meet a polar bear and enjoy blurring fiction and reality.
Camilla Parini studied dance theatre in Milan and began producing her own pieces in 2014. These move between stage performances, photography and installations and often revolve around questions of identity. Parini is also a co-founder of «Ticino is burning », a movement that aims to build bridges between contemporary theatre production in Ticino and the theatre scene in the rest of Switzerland.
Camilla Parini is part of Bring a Friend as a nominating artist. As part of this format, she curated Raissa Avilé's LA_MARIA o la espeluznante seducción de una cancion de amor, which can be seen at Zentrum Markus - Beiz on 27.5.
